The cabinet of the HL6 vents into the air via an ingeniously tapered slot at its base. The end of the horn is largely closed off but is coupled to the air by the slot. The driver has a rising response at high frequencies, but this is balanced by the extra output from the horn, and a compensation network in the crossover levels the response. The lively response of the main driver at high frequencies makes it a very fast performer and its sound joins seamlessly with that of the high frequency unit. This unique design was conceived for its low colouration and clarity. The relatively small bass horn very effectively loads the driver at low frequencies giving a rich full blooded sound which complements the incisive, yet smooth, nature of the high frequency range. |
